It's Getting Close!
Today I was able to leave the office for a little while because the parish manager and I went to shop for some things for Irish Pastor for the end of the year staff luncheon and his retirement luncheon. We went to Office Depot (one of my most favorite places to shop) and WalMart. The idea was to get him some funny gifts that were also practical. One example would be the Tide laundry detergent we purchased. The man has never done laundry in his life and is clueless about how to go about it. His sister-in-law and my roommate on the cruise, Laurie, will probably do his laundry for him, but we figured she would need something to do it with! We are also including 3 rolls of quarters for the washers and dryers at the condo where he will be living. We also got things like post-it notes, note pads, pens, paper clips, batteries, fabric softener, a stapler, and a dusting mitt just for a chuckle. All of those things are packed into a basket which will be given to him along with his main gift... a card filled with cash collected from the staff for him to put towards a new plasma screen TV.
I also wrote a few limericks in honor of the occasion which will be read at the event... couldn't resist. Speaking of limericks, our new Irish Pastor who will be starting in July, is actually from county Limerick in Ireland. I think I will have a lot of fun with that!
While out frolicking with the office manager in the stores, I spied some straw hats. I have been looking for an appropriate hat for the cruise and this looked like the sort I wanted. It fit, and even though I am not a hat person, it looked okay. I put it in the cart. The parish manager was thrilled that I had found a cute hat for the cruise, but was aghast when we went through the cashier's station and it came up $3.83! She was sure it was mismarked. I just laughed because I knew what the price was already. She looked at the tag and discovered that it was actually made out of paper that was woven to look like straw. That I did not know, nor did I care. It just needs to make it through this cruise. If you didn't read the tag, you would never know it was made from paper. For $3.83, I can't lose! "L" will be very proud of me!

$3.83 is a high-priced hat at the cheap stores! Anyway, it's a buck more than my elegant Paris hats from WalMart.
Actually, the hat was purchased from WalMart. We shopped at WalMart after Office Depot. Sorry if I wasn't clear... my brain is malfunctioning due to overload from cruise excitement.
the hat sounds Fab-u-lous, dahling :)
