Hallmark and Florists Everywhere Celebrate

Tomorrow is the day that florists and card shops everywhere relish. It is a day begun somewhere centuries ago that began with simple expressions of love and has been warped into a major gift giving holiday by card manufacturers. People everywhere drive themselves into a frenzy to do something to please the special people in their lives.

That being said, I personally don't see anything wrong with receiving candy, flowers or cards. Candy is yummy, flowers are beautiful, and cards can be either fun or sweet. It is however meaningless when the relationship being celebrated in not real. I would much rather get honest, verbal expressions of love than all of the "goodies" that usually come. I have had those things over the years in a relationship that was never real. I never got what I really wanted. Respect, love, friendship, intimacy, trust... those are the types of things that really matter.

So, if you have a special person in your life to celebrate tomorrow with, consider yourself lucky. But do take the time to impart to that person those things that are really the most important. The "goodies" don't mean much without it.

I will try to get off my soap box for my next post! ;o)

Here's hoping that you get what you really want. Or a puppy, which is always nice. :)

Rhodent, I will say amen to your thoughts. Holidays can be tough. Still better than the alternative.
I learned that phrase all over again from my cardiologist.
All puppies are nice. Most dogs are too, hang in there with your nice varmints for now.

Stay right here, I'm going to go get Marilyn to have her read your last line about presents not being important. You did say presents didn't you??
Actually, I was in Lincoln, NE and found a plant. I lovingly told Marilyn that I thought of her when I saw it because I couldn't remember her ever trying to kill one of these. I need to write a book on things you shouldn't say.

Great post Rhodent. It's not the card, the flowers, or any of that stuff. Fun - yeah, necessary - no. It's just fluff if there is nothing behind it.
