Just Wondering

Why is it that great people never quite seem to grasp the enormity of their accomplishments? Seemingly, they tend to view what they have done as just normal everyday activity that everyone ought to be doing. They seem to move ahead from one thing to another, accomplishing one great thing after another or to continue in their original efforts as if they are the most normal thing in the world to be doing. Accolades seem to astound them, and they focus on what they view as their own shortcomings.

Of course, we wouldn't be human if we didn't!

Well, there doesn't seem to be that much reticence in this day and age of "Build your own Presidential Library" before you die".

It's just the nature of the beast!

Ron & Frustrated-- I don't actually consider those who are building presidential libraries for themselves to be the type of great people I am referring to here. Holding political office or being well known does not make someone great in my book!

I think you answered your own question - "they view what they have done as just normal everyday activity that everyone ought to be doing"

I think a lot of it is focus. Focus to the point us ordinary people don't comprehend.

Because what they do is natural. First nature if you will. It is like blinking, why would you pat some one on the back for blinking?
