A Fun And Busy Week
It has been quite a crazy and fun week... constant craziness and interruptions at work, marathon telephone calls with super people, a fabulous Girls' Night Out, and a 60th birthday party for my boss Cathy. With Friday night's staff gathering for fun and food at a local restaurant still to come, and who knows what else on Saturday, I think the fun will continue for a few more days.
Sunday is Palm Sunday which really begins some of my favorite liturgy of the year at church. It is also a very busy time for staff, so I expect things to settle down as everyone gets focused on pulling everything together for Holy Week. AND THEN the snowbirds start heading back north, traffic becomes more tolerable, and the air conditioners start going full blast.
The weather has been beautiful here... perfect, in fact! However, I just read Dr. Gray's predictions for the upcoming hurricane season and I have to tell you that I am not at all happy about what he has to say. It does look like it will be another busy season, although he does not think that it will be as busy as this past year. I get tense just thinking about the possibilities. In another month, I will be getting my hurricane disaster kit updated and praying that I won't have to use it! I may have to seriously consider retiring to a less precarious area of the country... is there such a thing?

We're updating our Hurricane kit, too.
We're in a little corner of Maui that hasn't suffered any damage directly due to any of the past hurricanes. The Islands are so remote, though, that everyone feels the aftermath.
Over 90% of our goods come in by ship, so when shipping is interrupted we have severe shortages of:
- Spam
- Rice
- Toilet paper.
The mere mention of a hurricane causes these items to empty off store shelves.
I hope that the hurricanes simply blow themselves out at sea. I can only imagine the stress even thinking about them must cause you.
